Hi Everyone, My name is Alexander Davis and I am the Founder and Artistic Director of Sugar Hill Salon Chamber Music; based in Harlem on the traditional territory of the Lenapehoking.
It is astounding that we are now 5 years into existing as a series, and it truly could not have been possible without all of your support and donations over these past years. This last season was truly monumental for us as it brought so many incredible opportunities to our collective. We performed 12 concerts in total with 7 of those being from our very own series at Lucille’s Harlem and Jackie Robinson Park. We made our debut at both The Met Museum and The Met Cloisters which brought our audience reach to over 5000+ people. We were featured on WQXR twice for their radio segment on quartets and their live Pride Show hosted by Thorgy Thor. And we hit our five year goal of reaching a $20,000 reserve to pay our artist more and be considered for larger grants.
Looking ahead, Sugar Hill Salon will continue to host monthly concerts from January - July at Lucille’s Harlem and Jackie Robinson Park Bandshell. We are extremely excited to premier our first large chamber work, Praise Song for the Flying Africans in June by Sugar Hill Salon’s own composer and classical Sopranist, Jay Saint Flono. We have been dreaming hard to bring this work to life since premiering a reduced chamber version back in 2023 and can officially say City Lyric Opera has selected us to help bring this work to life for their 2024/2025 season! Stay tuned to hear more about it!
Again, all of this was only possible because of your donations over the years. If we weren’t able to build our reserve this large, we would not be able to take on projects like this.
I hope you will donate again or for the first time and share our 2025 GoFundMe to help us continue to grow. With all my love, thank you and I hope to see you at our season opening concert on Monday, January 24th, at 7 PM!
